As mentioned in a previous post, in some projects, the only way to get what you both need and want is to wipe the slate clean and start over. This is one of those projects! As much as I love keeping and working with a home's original features, there is something to be said for a fresh start; that's exactly what we're doing here.
The space: Kitchen
The why: Typical to many homes in this neighborhood, this newly purchased house has the original kitchen that has only received “band-aid updates” up until now. With the plan to tackle all large-scale projects before moving in, we had to update the kitchen and do it fast!
The mission here is to complete a complete overhaul of this badly past-due kitchen. We will also open it up so it isn’t excluded from the dining and living spaces. In order to do these things, we need to totally demo the space and start from scratch (don’t worry; the OG cupboards are planning to be salvaged for another space). Once we open up the walls, all new cupboards, countertops, appliances, and lighting will go in.
This project is an excellent example of how much you can accomplish in a short time if you have a budget set, a clear vision, and a team ready to go!
The punch list:
Gut the kitchen by removing all existing cupboards and appliances
Remove the existing wall between the kitchen and dining
Install new cabinetry, countertops, and appliances
Extend the countertops 12” into the dining room to create countertop seating
Add new lighting, hardware, and backsplash
Furnish with counter stools
Project Kick-off: April 2024
